Why Tai Chi

Tai Chi is recognised for offering a wide range of physical, mental and emotional benefits. These benefits include:

  • improved balance and fall prevention

  • increased flexibility

  • improved cardiovascular fitness

  • increased muscle strength

  • pain reduction

  • stress reduction

  • relaxation

  • enhanced emotional wellbeing

  • positive mental state

  • increased energy levels

  • improved immune function

  • improved quality of life \                                                     (Wang, Collet and Lau, 2004)

Tai Chi is increasingly being used within Pain Management services across the UK NHS. It is recognised as a safe approach to exercise and can result in a sense of relaxation and tranquility, both of which can help to reduce the suffering experienced in chronic pain conditions.

Tai Chi looks at the body as a connected system, not as a collection of individual parts. When practicing Tai Chi for example, you won't do one exercise for your biceps and another for your glutes. Instead, Tai Chi integrates the upper body with the lower body, the right side with the left side, and the extremities with the core.

Start your Tai Chi journey by joining one of our weekly classes.
