My Story

About Trevor

Trevor has been practising Tai Chi Chuan for over 30 years. He first came to Tai Chi with an existing background in Japanese martial arts, and studied Yang-style Tai Chi with Mr Kei, a Malaysian Chinese teacher whose lineage traces back through Dong Yingjie to Yang Cheng-fu.

Today, Trevor teaches Yang 108 form Tai Chi, Pa Tuan Chin and Tao Yin exercises in Oradour-Fanais and Payroux. His approach is practical, patient and structured, with classes that are relaxed, friendly and serious enough to learn properly.

Trevor’s aim is not to preserve Tai Chi as a museum piece. The roots matter, but the practice also needs to be useful now: modern, dynamic, and relevant to real people with real bodies. Classes focus on helping students move more freely, improve balance, ease stiffness, develop coordination and build confidence.

Classes are not about copying the teacher perfectly or moving in flawless unison. Everyone learns at their own pace, with the focus on better understanding, better movement and steady personal progress.

Martial principles are part of the background and help explain how the movements work, but the classes are not taught as fighting classes. Trevor avoids formal titles such as “sifu”; he prefers clear teaching, good humour and honest practice.

Alongside Tai Chi and Tao Yin, Trevor has a long background in Wado Ryu karate, iaido and Okinawan kobudo. His professional training in massage therapy and anatomy also informs the way he teaches, giving him a practical understanding of posture, movement and how people adapt as they age, recover or return to exercise..
